About This Section

EntrezGene summary for HTR2B:
Multiple receptor subtypes of serotonin neurotransmitters with multiple physiologic functions have
been recognized. The 5-HT-2 receptors mediate many of the central and peripheral physiologic
functions of serotonin. Cardiovascular effects include contraction of blood vessels and shape
changes in platelets; central nervous system effects include neuronal sensitization to tactile
stimuli and mediation of hallucinogenic effects of phenylisopropylamine hallucinogens.[supplied by
OMIM]

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: 5HT2B_HUMAN, P41595
Function: This is one of the several different receptors for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a
biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. This receptor
mediates its action by association with G proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium
second messenger system
